We’re thrilled to announce a new tool for our members, and of course, for the general public–It’s called Active Igniter, and it’s a high-tech tool that’s used to assess activity and movement over the course of one’s day. We’re excited because it is something we believe in, and something that we’ve been trying to make cost-effective for a long time. Years ago, we located a device that was very expensive and difficult to use for our members. Although it was an extremely useful tool, it was way too expensive–think $1000 +!! We had a hard time being able to justify passing along the cost to our members. It just wouldn’t work.

Fast-forward a few years to present 2012: We’ve partnered with a technology company in Boston who creates cost-effective movement monitoring hardware and software. We’re using their technology in a different way than they intended, but in new way that they’re happy to participate in. Over the next few months we’ll be using Active Igniter in various ways-from an assessment tool, to a motivation daily tracking tool, to a social sharing platform with the intention of bringing groups of people together. One of our big missions is and has always been to create a community at Saratoga Health and Wellness so that people feel a sense of belonging AND increase the likelihood of attaining their goals. Active Igniter can be used to motivate large groups of people and as you may know, exercising with friends (and having social connections) increases your chances of maintaining your active lifestyle!

We’ll be offering each of our members access to Active Igniter for $49 (for a 2 week assessment) and if you’d like to continue using it, we’ll charge $10/month (for the online access) and let you use the device as long as you keep your subscription current. And of course, if you’d just like to have it you can also purchase it for $149, but we wanted to give people a reasonable option to test it out.
